Texture Tuesday with...

Kim Klassen

This week TT challenge is Another Free and Easy Edition!  All we have to do is use any of Kim's fabulous texture, that's it!

First I opened my photo in GIMP and used "Dawn Clouds" script.  Then I used Kim's texture Minus 43, sorry I'm not sure which blending mode I used more than likely it was Multiply at approx. 87%.  I took the saturation down a bit and increased the contrast in curves.

This picture was taken on my last visit back home (Texas) this is down in Kemah on the boardwalk.

Texture Tuesday ~ Anything Goes eDition

This week over at Kim Klassen's cafe, we're to use any photo of your choice, textured or not textured...easy.  Not so easy to choose just one for me, but I decided to keep it simple and only use two of my favorites (at least at the moment).

I was leaving to take my son to school and opened the garage door and saw this amazing sky.  I ran back into the house grabbed my camera and shot it from my driveway.  The cloud's formation was just so magical, something you'd see in a fairy tale book.   The sun was hitting the clouds making them a golden color and the moon still high in the sky, I couldn't believe how lucky I was to be there at that magical moment.  By the time my son got in the car and we pulled out of the driveway, the clouds had moved and the sun was over the mountains.

This is the park I walk my dog in everyday.  I see these birds (Grackles) all over the park.  I remembered to grab my camera on my way out the door and I was also participating in another challenge and for that day it was "bird".  I like this shot because of the DOF and how proud that bird is on the edge of the garbage can.  He was just sitting there staring at me, almost like he was posing.  After I took the shot he did fly away and I was so hoping it was a good one...I think it is.

Texture Tuesday - The Love eDition

It's been quite awhile since I participated in Kim Klassen's Texture Tuesday challenge.  This week's challenge is to use any of her fabulous textures themed around the word "Love".

One day I was up at the park close to my house and on the track that goes around the park were all these tiny little flowers that had fallen off the trees.  This idea came to me to scoop them up and spell a word out of them.  So I came up with the word "love" and thought I could use my fingers using the "peace" sign for the "v" and in one photo I could convey two messages; Love and Peace.  That's what I had felt at the time.

I used Kim's texture "More Magic" using screen mode at 100%, I felt it was very suited for this photo because of all the inspiring words on it.  I also used a filter called "glamour glow" to darken it a bit and it also softened it.

Here is the original photo.

Texture Tuesday with Kim Klassen

The Outside eDition

Our challenge is to use a photo that we took outside and at least one of Kim Klassen's texture.

I took this on my trip to Lake Tahoe, CA.  We were walking around town and came across a little shop that rented bicycles.  They looked really cool all lined up and thought I should take a shot.

I used Kim's texture "Wonderful Magic" on blending mode Screen at 100%.  I also used a Cross Process on this photo.

Texture Tuesdays with...

This week our challenge is to use two of Kim's texture on our photos...pretty easy, well sort of.  It's always a challenge to find the right texture, blending mode and opacity for the photo you want to use.  I find that sometimes I go through many photos and/or textures before hitting it just right (or at least I think so).

This is a photo I took last month at our First Friday event that's held every month in the Art's District (Las Vegas).  Our team, "Handmade in Vegas" sets up our tents and sell our arts and crafts at "The Lot".  Last month, we had a drum circle, Music for Life, out there and they were fantastic and so much fun to listen to and to watch.

I used Kim's textures, "More magic scratched and Rejoice 2".

Texture Tuesday - Free and Easy eDition

This week we get to use any of Kim's fabulous textures.  I chose one she so graciously offers for free (for more information on receiving her weekly textures click on her name above).

My son has just turned 15 and I decided it was about time to re-do his bathroom decor.  He's really into playing his guitar.  So, I decided to take some shots of his guitar and do his bathroom up in that type of decor.

I used Kim's "Be Still" texture at Multiply at 100%, then a brown filter at 75%, erased some of the texture off of the guitar.

This image I added a 1960's film filter on to it.

Be sure to check out all of the other entries for more inspiration and tips on Kim Klassen's blog.

White eDition - Texture Tuesday

I can't believe a week has already gone by...wow.  This week's challenge is to use one of Kim's fabulous textures and center your photo around the word "white".  Since last week I used my white flowers, I didn't have much time to be overly creative with this weeks challenge.

Over the weekend I took a few photos of the blooming Bird of Paradise (which is way early for them to be blooming) in our yard.  I sat down in the grass and my dog decided my lap was a great place to sit.  I have a Great Dane mix which is a wee bit over 100 lbs.  Yes, I know, he so needs to lose weight, but he's very muscular (in my defense).  I still had my camera in my hand and took this shot using my 35mm lens.

I first desaturated the picture a bit, then used Kim's textures, "and Then Some" blending mode Multiply at 100%, "Shades of November" first I flipped the image and then mirrored it using blending mode Overlay at 95% and then "Scratched Magic July" at 95% Screen mode.

I wanted to use the "mouse over", but I didn't save the original...heh.

Texture Tuesday - The Felicity eDition

This week our challenge was to use Kim Klassen's free texture "Felicity".

Our weather, here in Las Vegas, has been so mild for a winter, that some of the trees are already blooming such beautiful flowers.  On my way to taking my son to school, I pass a park that is lined with these trees, (Yoshino Cherry trees).

I first softened the photo and added a chocolate brown filter at 52%, then I added the texture "felicity" Screen mode at about 85%, erased over the flowers at the opacity of 35%.  Then I added the quote.

Kim Klassen's Texture Tuesday - Free Edition

This is my first post of the new year!  I just know that this is going to be a great year for us all.

So to start the Texture Tuesday off, Kim has made it simple for us...I don't know about you, but I'm pooped from all the holiday festivities and all the food and sweets I've devoured...sigh.

I got a brand new Nikon lens (Nikkor 35mm) for my birthday and this is just one of the photos I shot with it.  I do love this lens and looking forward to sharing more photos from it.

I used Kim's fabulous "free" textures More Magic, blending mode Difference at 100% (erasing off of face) and  Annabelle, 100% blending mode Multiply (erasing from face).

The Santa is from Barbora Sutton, she hand sculpts some fabulous Santa's, witches, fairies and more.

Red is the Word for...

...this weeks Texture Tuesday with Kim Klassen.   We have to have "red" in our photo and use at least one of Kim's wonderful textures.

This picture was taken during my visit to the "Niner" Winery in California over the summer.  This is a really gorgeous winery and if you're ever in that part of California, I highly recommend you stop in for a little wine tasting.  I present to you my glass with "red" wine in it...well a wee bit of red wine left in it.

Roll mouse over to see original

The process I did was duplicated the photo.  Cropped just a little bit to cut someone standing off to the side out.  I then layered it with Kim's February Magic, blending mode Overlay at 65% and Pourvous Overlay at 100%.

Gratitude eDition - Texture Tuesday

Our challenge this week is "gratitude" and to use two of Kim Klassen's textures.  I'm grateful for so many things in my life, but one thing I've been needing is "solitude", a little alone time to center myself.  I think as mothers, wives, sisters and even friends, we lose ourselves (or I know I do).  I'm grateful for my alone time...my me time.  So this photo of a lone horse reminded me of "Solitude".

I used Kim's Portrait, blending mode Multiply 100% and Canvas Back blending mode Multiply 100%, erased some of the texture from the horse.  I really didn't have a clear idea or image in my head, but I like the way it came out.

Hooking up with Texture Tuesday - Love eDition

This weeks theme is "Love" and to use any of Kim's fabulous textures at least once.  I had the perfect photo I wanted to use, but didn't ask the parents permission in time (since it's of their little boys).  I don't like putting anyone's kids on the internet without their permission...that's just me.

The photo I chose shows "love" to me.  I'll fill you in on it a bit.  This picture is of me and a very, very dear friend of mine.  We met back in Junior High and immediately were friends.  She has the most contagious smile then and still...we were inseparable.  Ok, making a long story short...she got married very young and had children.  Me, I went on living the "typical" single life (no children) and working towards a career.  Sadly, our separate lives took us in different directions along with other things beyond our control.  BUT, she was never ever far from my heart.  Years went by about 20 and I was back home (Texas) visiting and we found each other.  Unfortunately, we didn't stay in touch (not sure why)...anyway with the great internet and Facebook, yes, we found one another again.

Nancy came out to Las Vegas for a wedding (not hers...lol) and we met up.  It was like we've never really been a part.  We hugged one another so tightly, I didn't want to let her go...not again.  We had a fabulous day hanging out and catching up.  We've kept in touch ever since and have made a promise to never lose contact.  You see, she's one of the best people I know and one of the strongest ladies I know.  I'm so bless to have her in my life, but even more blessed to call her my friend.  I love you Nancy!  Best Friends Forever.

Kim's texture I used was Misty Love Letter blending mode Normal 100% erased over us, I wanted to keep as much of that texture as possible.  I added another layer blending mode Burn not sure what opacity.  Then I used Shadow House Creations Black Box Mask - 8 blending mode Overlay.

Another Free and Easy eDition

Yep...it's that time again...Texture Tuesday with Kim Klassen.  I know, I can't believe it either.  Today's entry was taken back in May during a quick trip up to Mount Charleston (which is a nice cool and quick getaway).  We were having lunch out on the deck, when I kept hearing this sweet little sound that I hadn't quite heard before.  To my surprise it was lots of hummingbirds flying by.  I grabbed my camera and tried catching a few.  Those little buggers are hard to photograph.  Well I was able to photograph one while it was at the feeder.  I know it's not the best photograph hummingbird, but I tried.

I first used Kim Klassen's Scripted Edges texture blending mode Difference at 100%.  Then I added    Shadow House Creations texture Aged Photo Effect Mask blending mode Hard light at 100%.  Erased a little bit of texture from the hummingbird.  Pretty easy.

Be sure to click on Kim's link up above to see more fabulous texture work and if you're interested in Texture Tuesday.  Also if you love textures sign up with Kim to start receiving free textures every week.  Jerry at Shadow House Creations also offers free textures.

The Do eDition

How time flies...it's already Texture Tuesday with Kim Klassen.  I was so unprepared for this weeks challenge.  Our challenge is "Do" and/or using Kim's fabulous free (yes, I said free) texture "Autumn Burst".  I had to look in my archives for a photo to use.

Several years ago, we went to San Diego's Wild Animal Park on vacation.  I had just gotten my Nikon DSLR camera a few months before our vacation.  So needless to say, I was still learning the ins and outs of it.  As we were approaching to turn in to the parking lot (sitting in traffic) I leaned out of the car and snapped this photo.  It's a hot air balloon that's in the park, that you can ride up in to see the whole area.  Unfortunately, during our time there it got really windy and that ride was shut down.  Anyway here's my entry for this weeks challenge.

Run mouse over image to see the before photo

This image spoke to me (for this challenge) "Do reach for the sky".  I also loved this quote and thought it was fitting for the image and for our challenge.

I used Kim Klassen's Autumn Burst blending mode Hardlight at 83%.

Texture Tuesday - Cracker Jack eDition

This weeks challenge is to use Kim Klassen's Cracker Jack texture that she graciously gave to us...Free!

My process: blending mode Exclusion 100%
                   blending mode Color Legacy 53%
blending mode Multiply 100% erasing some texture from martini glass.

I really wanted to try something a little different.  The martini is actually a Sour Apple Martini, but using the exclusion turned all the colors in the photo different, giving it a more artistic feel to it or at least that's what I think.

If your interested in Texture Tuesday or like to be inspired (like I do) by other fabulous photography then head over to Kim's blog and check them all out.

Kim Klassen's - Orange eDition

I made it!  I didn't get a chance to participate in last weeks Texture Tuesday...now I feel like I'm barely making it in this one.  Anyway, this weeks challenge is "orange".  So I really wanted to take a picture of something other than a flower or use any "orange" flower photos I already had.  I saw this really beautiful orange tea pot at my friends house and decided to take a picture of it and the really cool tea cup she painted in the background.

I used Kim's Simple Things, Chamomile and Serious Magick textures.  If you're interested in Texture Tuesday click here.  While you're there, check out all the other fabulous photography work.

It's that time again...

for Kim Klassen's Texture Tuesday
The Movie Lovin eDition!

For this weeks theme, I actually had a different movie in mind, but I couldn't find the picture to use with it in my archives. It was "To Kill a Mockingbird", which is one of my all time favorites.  So, I went with another favorite of mine and when you see the picture...well I don't think I'll have to put the title, but I will.

Mouse over to see before pic

Can you guess?  Well if your answer is "A Nightmare Before Christmas" you're exactly right!  I watch this show probably every year at Halloween, it just cracks me up....love me some Tim Burton.

I used Kim Klassen's Canvas Back, blending mode Multiply at about 87% and Ruby Blossom's Flying Bat frame blending mode Overlay.

I can't wait to see what everyone came up with...this is going to be so inspiring and fun!

It's the little things....eDition Kim Klassen's Texture Tuesdays

So many different ideas had really gone through my head for this weeks challenge.  I had missed last weeks challenge for I was on vacation.  It was fabulous getting out of this heat in to much cooler weather.  Anyway, a lot of my picture taking ideas had to be put on the shelf because we had two craft shows to get ready for and I was a bit busy when I got back home.

So this is the photo I chose for this weeks challenge....

So my thinking for using this shot was...when taking photos of flowers, sometimes we forget to shoot the sweet little bulbs...before they bloom.

I used Kim Klassen's "Scripted Edges" on Screen mode 100% and added it again at 86%.

If your interested in Kim Klassen's Texture Tuesday click on the box below...and be sure to check out all the other fabulous photos as well.

Kim Klassen's Texture Tuesday

Dream eDition

I didn't really have enough time to take a new picture, so I went in to my archives and dug this one out.

This was taken about 2 years ago during our trip to San Diego.  We bought our son a body board and let me tell you, he had a blast and was a natural on it.  Anyway, I thought this picture could be saying, "Dreaming of that next big wave".

The only thing I did with this photo was add Kim Klassen's texture "Dream", she so generously gave to us, using blending mode Overlay.

If your interested in Texture Tuesday click on the little box below...be sure to check out all the other fabulous photographers that participate.  I know I'm looking forward to it.
