Macro Fun

Bouquet of flowers for Valentine's Day.  Collage was done through PicMonkey.  

I use to do a lot of Macro photography and then shied away from it, not sure why. While sitting next to this beautiful bouquet inspired me to shoot some macro. Hmm...maybe I'll start doing a "Macro Monday" challenge myself.

Photo Art Friday

Once again a day late...but I still made it!

This weeks challenge is to use any photo art of your choice or to use Pixel Dust Photo Art's free texture "Bamboo Dreams".  I loved the texture and chose to do use it.

I lowered the saturation and then used a Cross Process filter added the texture using blending mode overlay at approximately 85%.  I then used one of Jerry Jones' textures "Black Box overlay" on Screen blending mode at 100%.  I added another filter "Vintage" over the whole thing.

Vintage ~ Photo Art Friday

This week our challenge is to turn a photo so it has a vintage look/feel to it.  I hope I accomplished it with this photo.

I used Bonnie's free texture "Vintage Craquelure" on blending mode Multiply approximately 80%.  I first I brought the color down using the curve tool, then added the texture, I also added another texture through PicMonkey, then a grunge like frame around the whole thing.

New Challenge...

Photo a Day - May

Well, I decided once again to get involved in, yet another challenge...not that I don't already flake out on most I'm in already...sigh.  But this time, my niece is going to do this one with me (she lives in New Orleans), so she'll keep me accountable...lol.

This is a challenge from Chantelle at FatMumSlim, there on her blog you will find the full list and rules.

"Peace" is the word for May 1st...here is my interpretation for the challenge.

Project 52 - 2012 (Week 7)

Oh my where has the time gone?  I've been really bad about keeping up with all my challenges that I promised myself I was going to do this year...sigh.  Is it bad to break a promise to yourself?  Anyway, not to make excuses, but I've been in a bit of a photography rut, so to say.  I think because there's so much I don't know and want to know and well it overwhelms me at times.

I did go out this week and took a few shots of these trees that are blooming beautiful flowers.  I just couldn't believe it for this time of the year (but we haven't had a cold winter at all).

Here's my submission for this week...I know it's suppose to be about love, but I "love" taking photos of nature.

This is a close up of the flowers that are blooming all over these trees.  I'm not sure what kind of tree it is.

Here is part of the row of trees...just beautiful.

If anyone knows what type of trees these are, I'd really like to know...thank you.

Photo Art Friday

This is the first of many Fridays that Bonnie at Pixel Dust Photo Art is holding a weekly challenge called, "Photo Art Friday".  If you've never been to her blog be sure to check it out, she has some truly amazing photography and her own personal artistic flare.  She also has another blog, Original Art Studio, on this blog she has a very special technique that she uses to turn your photo into an exquisite piece of art....really it is very cool.

GIMP - Split Toning

Trying out Split Toning in GIMP...not sure if this was the best photo choice to use.  I do like how it turned out overall.  I've been playing with different techniques all weekend, just trying to get down the basics at this point.

Things I've been working on

I've been playing in Elements 9, due to the part of a "free" SkinnyMini ECourse on it.  You can find the button on my side bar to Kim Klassen's blog page chocked full of photography tips, tricks and so much more.  She is fantastic!  I'm totally addicted to her blog, for photography is a true passion of mine.  Anyway, this course was about "Textures", so I just wanted to share some of my photo editing skills with you...keep in mind, I'm a newbie...:D

Spring is in the air

The last few weeks I've been itching to go some place different to take some pictures.  I've got the shutter bug...LOL! OK, so I'm a little corny :D  Since I'm not heading off to any cool or exotic location, I decided to photograph a couple of flowers around our yard that were in full bloom.

 Bird of Paradise is from our backyard.

I'm not sure what the name of this flowering bush is, 

but it's still beautiful.

EtsyBloggers Team "Spring" Blog Carnival

I've decided to blog about Spring. I love the springtime, because it's not to cold and not to hot (especially if you live in Las Vegas). Spring is usually pretty short lived around here, so you'd better enjoy it before it goes away.

I look forward to the grass being green again and all the flowers blooming in the yards. I so enjoy taking pictures of flowers. I know you're probably wondering what kind of flowers grow in the desert, but they do. Our Bird of Paradise's are blooming right now and they are really beautiful flowers.


There are a some downsides to Spring as well....Allergies! Well I don't necessarily have a problem with them, but my son does. It does make it a little hard for him with all the pollen in the air. Springtime also brings the "winds" to Las Vegas, and they can get a little annoying as well.

So Cheers to Spring!
