Visitor

My morning visitor, waiting on the front porch.

It's a Spinx Moth, they are huge!

At first, I wasn't sure what it was and didn't want my dog to step on it.

I ran in the house and grabbed my camera hoping that us stepping over it didn't scare it away.  He was very cooperative as you can see.

Photo A Day Challenge

I've been in this group for some time now and haven't always participated every day or even every month.  So, I decided I was going to make it a point to stick with it this year.  I have missed a couple of days and I'll admit a couple of the photos are from my archives, but at least I'm trying...right?  Here in a few collages are the first 3 weeks of the challenge from Fat Mum Slim.
Week 1: Sky, Something Yellow, You and What you hear

Week 2: Square, Round, What you're reading,
Landscape, Pattern, Hello and I see

Week 3: Bright, Lucky No., New, Old,
Nature, Jump and Today is

It's a lot of fun and a great group of people too.

Summer Vacation 2014

This year we went to visit family in Morro Bay, CA.

If you're not familiar with Morro Bay, it's kind of famous for the big "rock" which is at the entrance of Morro Bay Harbor.  I captured the fog rolling in so you can't really see how tall it is.

I miss the ocean, growing up not to far from Galveston, TX.  I love just sitting on the beach watching the waves crash up on the sand, seagulls running around and kids building sand castles.

I like to play in the sand too...lol.  Personally, the water is a bit chilly for me, but I did eventually put my feet in it.
Ok, maybe just my toes.

There were these really weird, but kind of cool looking jelly fish that washed up on the beach.  Here's Charlie writing a message out of them to his cousin (that's who we're visiting).  They don't sting, so no worries there.  Here's a better photo of what they look like (top and bottom)

We had a great time just relaxing and hanging out with family.

I love the beach!

Beauty

Not only will it restore your soul, it will restore the souls of those around you.

I saw this peacock just walking down a neighboring street.  I had to pull over and take a picture of him.  His feathers were so beautiful.  I sat in my car just watching him walk with such elegance.  It was if he owned the road, not something you see everyday.

Macro Fun

Bouquet of flowers for Valentine's Day.  Collage was done through PicMonkey.

I use to do a lot of Macro photography and then shied away from it, not sure why. While sitting next to this beautiful bouquet inspired me to shoot some macro. Hmm...maybe I'll start doing a "Macro Monday" challenge myself.

Texture

I've been working on creating my own textures to use on photos.  Here's one using two photo's I've taken and made a few adjustments using "curve" and different brushes and tones.

Wee Little Bird

Lately here in Las Vegas we've had some spectacular clouds (which is very unusual) so I couldn't pass up the opportunity to snap this shot not only of the clouds but of the "wee little bird" perched upon a tiny limb.

I shot this with the camera on my cell phone and edited it in Snapfeed and also PicMonkey.

I do enjoy my early morning walks with my dog at the park.  Everything looks so fresh and new.

Where and when do you find some of your photography inspirations?

Dark and Dreamy

During my morning walk at the park the other morning, my dog stopped and I just happened to look up.  This tree and it's branches were just to cool not to snap a pic.

I edited this pic in #Snapseed.  I uploaded it to #Instagram and someone commented on it, that's where I got the title from.

Sometimes it pays to look up every once in awhile.

Into the Mist

I pass this tree daily while out walking my dog.  Today, I decided to stop and take a picture of it.  Actually for some reason it just jumped out and caught my eye and I thought, "Why haven't I notice how fabulous this tree is before?"  I took the photo with my phone (unfortunately didn't have my DSLR on me) then I edited it in "Snapfeed".

I'm planning on taking a picture of this tree with each season.  I have another photo of a tree that I'm going to do the same with.

I don't know why, but I'm really drawn to trees and have decided I should start photographing them, maybe it's what I'm suppose to do...lol.

What type of things are you just drawn to that you feel the need to photograph?

Road Trip

We were so tired of the heat here in Las Vegas, we decided to take a day road trip to Utah to cool off a bit.

We own some land up there, so what better excuse than to go check it out to see what's developing up around us.

I shot a few pics on the way up and pulled over to take some photos of the scenic view, way off in the distance is Zion National Park.  As we were heading up to Duck Creek, UT we saw a sweet little deer grazing on the side of the road.

It was nice to get away and see some green and smell the fresh pine filled air.

Do you have a favorite day road trip?

Photo Art Friday

Once again a day late...but I still made it!

This weeks challenge is to use any photo art of your choice or to use Pixel Dust Photo Art's free texture "Bamboo Dreams".  I loved the texture and chose to do use it.

I lowered the saturation and then used a Cross Process filter added the texture using blending mode overlay at approximately 85%.  I then used one of Jerry Jones' textures "Black Box overlay" on Screen blending mode at 100%.  I added another filter "Vintage" over the whole thing.

Good Morning...

Every morning my alarm goes off at 6:00, I wake my son up for school, go downstairs start the coffee (a definite must) and give our dog his morning cookie, aka doggie biscuit.  After he eats his biscuit, he wants to go outside...to my wonderful surprise was this gorgeous sunrise...

Here in Las Vegas, we don't usually have clouds in the sky, so I ran grabbed my camera (I couldn't miss this one) and shot this from our backyard.

I just wanted to share.

My son

My son hates for me to take his picture.  So....I have to sneak shots in when I can or really beg.

Here's one of the two of us on our vacation.  On our way up to Lake Tahoe, there was some roadwork, we had to wait, so we decided to jump out of the truck and take some photos.

That's Topaz Lake behind us...beautiful day.  You can see how thrilled he is...lol.

Playing in PicMonkey.

I'll be adding more pictures from our trip to Lake Tahoe and Morro Bay.

Vintage ~ Photo Art Friday

This week our challenge is to turn a photo so it has a vintage look/feel to it.  I hope I accomplished it with this photo.

I used Bonnie's free texture "Vintage Craquelure" on blending mode Multiply approximately 80%.  I first I brought the color down using the curve tool, then added the texture, I also added another texture through PicMonkey, then a grunge like frame around the whole thing.
